SUMMARY OF HOUSE-PASSED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
House Bill 5522 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Carol Glanville
House Committee: Higher Education
Senate Committee: Appropriations
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Midwestern Higher Education Compact Act to add the Director of the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) or his or her designee as a nonvoting member of Michigan's delegation to the Midwest Higher Education Commission.
Under current law, Michigan's delegation to the Commission is composed of the following voting members: The Governor, or his or her designee; one member of the Senate, appointed by the Senate Majority Leader; one member of the House of Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of the House; and two at-large members appointed by the Governor. In addition to the five voting members, Michigan's delegation includes a designee chosen by the State Board of Education, who serves as a nonvoting member.
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have no fiscal impact on State or local units of government.
