House Bill 4013 (as passed by the House)

Sponsor: Representative Bradley Slagh

House Committee: Natural Resources and Tourism

Date Completed: 10-27-25

CONTENT

The bill would amend Part 731 (Recreational Trespass) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to require signs intended to discourage individuals from entering private property to be posted at intervals of up to 250 feet along the boundary of a property.

Currently, a person must not enter or remain upon the property of another person to engage in recreational activity or trapping on that property without the consent of the owner or the owner's lessee or agent if the property is posted in a conspicuous manner against entry. The minimum letter height on the posting signs must be one inch. Each posting sign must be at least 50 square inches.

Additionally, the signs must be spaced to enable a person to observe at least one sign at any point of entry upon the property. The bill would delete this requirement of the signs and instead require the signs to be posted at intervals of up to 250 feet along the boundary of the property.
