SENATE BILL NO. 709

A bill to amend 2001 PA 142, entitled

"Michigan memorial highway act,"

(MCL 250.1001 to 250.2092) by adding section 1b.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1b. A memorial designation may be made under this act only for an eligible subject that satisfies all of the following criteria:

(a) Is an individual, a group of individuals, an organization, a mass-casualty event, a military unit, a military operation, a military event, or a military award.

(b) Must be historically or culturally significant to this state or the United States.

(c) If designated for an individual, group of individuals, or organization, the individual or an individual in the group or organization must be deceased.

(d) If designated for a service member, the service member must have died in the line of duty.

(e) If designated for a group of individuals, organization, military unit, military operation, military event, or military award, the mission or purpose of that subject must directly relate to 1 or more individuals who were public service officers or service members killed in the line of duty.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. 708 of the 103rd Legislature is enacted into law.
