Senator Rick Outman of the 33rd District offered the following invocation:

Dear heavenly Father, sometimes I wonder what would happen to me or to us if we knew that today was our last day on this earth. How would we reprioritize our lives? What would suddenly become important and what would we decide didn’t really matter? What kind of walls that we build up around ourselves would we tear down? How would we treat each other knowing that we were out of time? Would we start thinking about what comes next? Would we wonder about our eternal destiny?

The truth of the matter is that only You, Father, know the number of our days. Your word tells us that You knew that number before even our very first day. You also tell us not to boast about tomorrow for we do not know what a day may bring. Even Your servant Moses prayed, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”

Father, as we go through our deliberations today, help us to keep our thoughts on what truly is important. I’m reminded of the saying, Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last. Thank You for this new day and please, Father, guide our steps. I pray this in the name of Your Son. Amen.

The President pro tempore, Senator Moss, led the members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
